Client Bolder Boulder - A Local Legend on Memorial Day. The Bolder Boulder is an annual 10-kilometer road race held in Boulder, Colorado. The most recent race in 2008, featured over 54,000 runners, walkers, and wheelchair racers, making it the largest timed road race in the country, and the 3rd largest road race overall. The Bolder Boulder is also one of the largest tributes to American veterans in the U.S. on Memorial Day.
Product Runner Registration and Reporting Services - Each runner must be registered. During registration processing, runner demographics are created and linked to a bib (number worn on front of runner) and RFID (radio frequency identification) tag pair using custom .NET Windows Forms based application. On race day, the RFID tag is used to time the runner through the race course (beginning, splits, and finish). The race results data is then linked to the runner demographic data. Runner registration, demographics, and race result data reports are generated using custom SQL Server queries and Microsoft Reporting Services reports.
Project The project was to enhance a .NET application operating on a SQL server to handle the 2008 needs of the race and support of additional value-add features, such as runner registration, reporting services and the ability to purchase newly introduced 2008 merchandise.
In January, runners were already beginning to register. Bolder Boulder needed a software development company that was local, easy to work with and one that could get up to speed quickly. Magpie was the developer of choice.
Quickly Responding to the ever-evolving, fast-moving pace and hard deadline of a race this size, Magpie developed a partnership with the Bolder Boulder staff and with their other vendors to form a cohesive team. The following five months of software development prior to race day, and the post race processing were exceptionally successful.
Outcome Bolder Boulder, celebrating the 30th year of the race, said it was the smoothest the race has ever gone. Committing to work with Magpie again in 2009, Bolder Boulder was very pleased with the accommodating can-do attitude of Magpie's development team.
