Client SS8 Networks engineers mission-critical signaling solutions and service applications that provide continuity between traditional and next-generation communication networks. The world's most respected service providers leverage SS8 Networks' capabilities to realize the cost-saving and revenue-generating benefits of IP and other evolving network technologies.
Product As both a culmination of experience and vision, the ServiceController 3000 (SC3000) Series application servers represent the industry's best. Building on more than 20 years of telecommunications expertise, this advanced feature-rich product family delivers messaging, unified communications, short messaging, and other enhanced services. Plus, SS8 Networks is developing additional applications as part of its Interaction Suite (I-Suite) software.
Project The project provided a web application for subscribers to access their mailboxes for unified communications. Subscribers managed group lists, controlled Message Waiting Indication options, and uploaded caller greetings. Subscribers also gained a single view into their voice and email mailboxes. The application allowed users to retrieve messages, record and compose messages, and forward messages to other users or mailboxes.
Designed for deployment by service providers, the application was highly customizable through various properties and classes of service. Further customization was performed through XML and XSLT transformations on data before presentation to the end user. Additional considerations were also necessary to ensure security of the mailbox from external intrusions.
The application was built to run on a number of available Java Servlet containers including Apache Tomact, IBM's WebSphere, and BEA's WebLogic. Built via Java technology, the application has been tested on a variety of industry standard operating systems including Solaris and Windows.
This effort also produced a stand-alone Java API to allow the development of other interfaces and applications to perform the same tasks as the reference web application. This included complete documentation of the API through Javadoc.
Outcome This project was delivered on a very aggressive schedule to meet SS8's contractual and customer needs. The effort became part of the Interaction Suite application family. SS8 was so pleased that it followed up with an additional project (Web-Application Call Director).
