Competency Internet-Based Television Services (IPTV)
Product The client’s platform cost-effectively and reliably delivers entertainment digital television, high-speed Internet access, and traditional telephone service over existing copper telephone lines. Its service is similar to those provided by cable TV operators and includes broadcast TV and video-on-demand.
Project The client enlisted Magpie to accelerate the implementation of a new Internet-based television (IPTV) service.
There are many components to the system, each provided by a different company. In addition to developing the user interface for the set-top box (the customer-visible portion of the system), Magpie took a primary role in integrating the disparate systems and managed the overall development environment.
Magpie developed the deployment support and maintenance procedures for the integration of all the system components. Key system components developed by Magpie include the set-top box user interface, the communications manager server, and the video-on-demand title server. We also created the remaining IPTV solution components, which included the Amino set-top box, Espial EVO middleware for the set-top box, Lucent management/billing system (SMS), Kasenna video-on-demand server, and Triveni PSIP Generator (program guide feed).
Outcome Magpie’s agile development methodology enabled reprioritization of product requirements mid-development interval as new market data surfaced, without any negative impact on the schedule.
