Project     Magpie works with Avaya to supplement their development organizations across their IP Telephony, Contact Center, Unified Communication and Communication Enabled Businesses. In addition, Magpie has provided Avaya various forms of technology training and training on Agile development practices. In this case, Magpie was brought in to perform an analysis for one organization’s Agile development practices.

Many Avaya development teams are migrating to Agile practices. Magpie was brought in to analyze a recent project that used Agile techniques to do an independent assessment of the development’s team use of Agile. There were a few issues during the development that concerned Avaya management. This Avaya team also wanted to make sure that it kept improving development practices. Magpie was the ideal company to perform this analysis because of our experience running Agile projects.

Magpie met with team management and team members using a specific set of questions to identify issues in the key areas of Agile projects. We were able to identify opportunities for improvement in a number of different areas. One key area of improvement was to enhance the speed of the integration cycle which took up to two weeks at times. Magpie concluded this engagement with a readout to management of our findings and recommendations. We also followed it up with a presentation to the entire development organization.

Outcome     This project was successful due to Magpie's expertise in software development practices, specifically Agile techniques. The Avaya organization took a number of recommendations and implemented them. The two-week integration cycle has been reduced to 1 day. Additional test equipment and configurations has also allowed for better, faster testing and more test coverage.
